I am also a nurse that works in a jail. To answer your question there is really nothing else you can catch, no HIV or Hepatitis. But here is my question why didn't she have emergency equipment? I have worked in a few jails and they all had face masks, mouth gaurds, and ambu bags! She is deserving of what she gets, especially after making a comment like that. It is her duty to give care, even if the other inmates helped she should have done more than make nasty comments.

Any nurse, especially in that kind of situation, would have a mask of somekind or even an Ambu-bag to give respirations. This story just kind of smells to me.

thats dreadful..

what a horrible woman that nurse is

if they puke into your mouth while you are administering it you can get worse diseases. HIV is a possibility. i was taught that when i went for CPR training and the medic who taught us said that the puking is common.

She was stupid for that. They have shields that can be used, not always because of the risk of disease but sometimes the person may throw up & you don't want that in your mouth....
She should have been fired for not doing her job.

Did the man die? I'm not sure if nurses have to take an oath to treat every patient the same.

she should be fired, she is a nurse. it is part of her job to administer cpr to anyone who needs it while she is on duty.

also alot of places have mouth guards to protect against the transmition of illness, whether one was available or not, she should have done her job

why the hell would a PROFESSIONAL RN deny any person the right to live?

I think she was fired for failure to act in an emergency. New CPR guidelines state that compressions are basically all that is necessary. She could have done those while another inmate did some rescue breathing. Her failure to intervene in any way is probably what got her into trouble.
