Sick 18 month old need some advice or ideas please?!

Question: My 18 month old seems to get sick alot!
Last Christmas she had a respiratory illness known as RSV she spent her first Christmas in the hospital and ever since she gets constant colds that go straight to her lungs!! My husband quit smoking (he only did it out side) when she was in the hospital and we do not have any pets so I dont think its allergy related.
This bout she has now started monday (2nd one within 3 weeks) I took her to my dr and he said her lungs sounded a bit damaged to try her back on her nebuliser (thing that blows ventolin on her) so we have been doing that but as of today she has gotten worse she is very wheezy and is running a fever of 101 I have given her tylenol and a bath and nothing seems to help and she sleeps with a cool mist humidifier going and her head elevated...

Has anybody else gone through something similar?
What did it end up being?
I have a 3 week old so I am so scared she is going to get it to
Thanks for your help

My daughter had RSV when she was 4 months old. It's a really scary thing! Was your daughter born premature? Premature infants usually have lung problems, because that is the last organ to fully develop. RSV is notorious for causing permentant lung problems. My daughter has not been diagnosed with asthma, but when she runs she gets out of breath very easily. I suggest taking her to a pediatric pulmonologist. The specialize in children's lung conditions. They may be able to determine what exactly is causing your daughters health problems.

I have asthma, had it since childhood. I can only speak from my experience.

Your mattresses, pillows, carpeting, etc may have dust mites. For some of us it really gives up bad reactions. For dust mites - wash pillows and blankets in hot water, cover mattresses in plastic (good idea anyway for little kids with diapers). Steam Clean carpets. DO NOT vacuum carpets. Unless you have a HEPA filter on your vacuum, you will be circulating dust around the room and blowing it into the air - making it far worse. I once had to go to the ER after lots of vacuuming. I was so bad that mega-puffs on my inhaler did not help.

You may also have some mold, especially in a basement where it's usually more humid. Maybe there is asbestos in the area, like insulation around a pipe.

One of my best friend's daughters had RSV when she was 10 months old. She has problems with illness to this day (she's 4 now.) They eventally decided that there was something in the house they were living in that was making her have an allergic reaction. They never did figure out what it was, but they moved and she doesn't get sick nearly as often. The docs said it could be mold, a paint, a fiber in the carpet, a plant outside, etc. In a couple of months, they're going to do the allergy testing on her to try to find what she's allergic to. I'm concerned that your doc just said to put your daughter back on her nebulizer and sent you home. I think your doc needs to take a closer look at your daughter's illnesses. She's young and should be able to fight these off. You may want to consider getting a second opinion. Your doc seems way to calm about this. if you can not get her fever down soon, take her to the er. Try to get as much fluids into her as you can! I'm so sorry you have to go through this! good Luck!

if you look up RSV it says that later in life a child could pick up asthma from this and more likely that is what she has and it is cause by the dust mites in your house every house has them get a bed cover for her bed that zips up to keep them in and ask your Dr about singular
