We have mold in our house, we all have been sick for 2 months- respitory problem!

Question: Just totally crappy all the time. All 4 of us feel this way! We rent and are trying to find a place. It has taken over the home, so I have been told not to clean it- it will do no good, Any tips on what to do? We are lower middle class and don't have cash to blow on stuff...keep that in mind when you answer!! Thanks, for the answers =)

First, make sure the problem is not caused by carbon monoxide poisoning - get a cheap detector at Walmart and instead of mounting it, place it in different locations in your house and turn it on. If carbon monoxide is detected, call the landlord, and keep the windows open enough to get fresh air.

If the house is moldy, your choices are to move to a different location, or work something out with your landlord to have him/her fix the problem, although there are a few things you can do yourself. If the mold is in between the walls and under the house, it might cost the landlord more money to kill the mold than the house is worth.

Mold on walls, ceilings, and other hard surfaces can be easily killed with a spray bottle and a diluted Clorox solution. Use a mask when you are spraying, and provide a lot of ventilation. Wash moldy curtains with a detergent that contains colorfast bleach. Mold in the carpets can't be treated - the only solution is to remove the carpet. A very cheap alternative to moldy carpet is to pull up the carpet and paint the floor - the landlord might go along with letting you pain the floor or agree to replace the carpet with a mold-resistant fabric.

Is it a black mold, that is hard to clean up? We have Aspergillus in our house, which can cause some respiratory complaints.

You should try to find away to get out of the house if it involves moving into a hotel room or with other family members till you can find a new place. Toxic Mold is something not to joke around about it can cause serious health issues that can last months or years.

You should contact the health dept. for advice on finding a solution or call a certified mold professional to come check the house out so you know what your dealing with and/or if you really need to move out.
