Please help me..swollen salivary glands?!

Question: at first I thought it was a muscle until somebody tol me that they were salivary glands from how I explained it: triangular looking. Start from the back of the jaw bone, and work your fingers in a little bit..it meets to the top of the throat and kind of stop b4 it gets to the tip of your chin. U can see them real good when u put your head back or turn your head, and feel them 2. A little of a week ago, I started massaging this section for know reason. I was nervous and just started doing it, and I kept on and on. And this was when I noticed the problem. It made my throat get soar and then I seen those. I was in the cold weather today so now it's making the back of my tongue feel tingly and under my chin where the swelling is. Do u think me messing with them like that could've caused the problem? I wouldn't have done it if I knew what they were. Please, help me and tell me what to do. I'm a college student so the nursing office is closed for the rest of the week. I need some answers

This sounds like what I had a few months ago. I was visiting my mom in San Diego and my throat hurt.
ER room said it was my salivary glands.
But, the next day I was sent to a doctor and she sent me to the Head Injury guy (the next day). He had a CAT scan done on me and I had an abscess in my throat. He had to cut me open, RIGHT THEN AND THERE, to drain the wound. It had to be packed and drained daily and I had to take antibiotics. I suggest you go to the ER, if possible.

ALSO, SUCK LEMONS!! Really, it will amaze you what relief it brings! I sucked lemons before we knew it was an abscess and it really relieved the pain.

Good luck.

Yes massaging will inflame them. Stop and the problem will subside.

the glands that are swollen are called your parotid glands. those are the ones that swell when you get the mumps. i don't want to scare you but if your throat is sore and they are swollen, to abnormally large size that could be it because those are symptoms. i dont think that touching them can make anything worse but look in your phone book for like a health link number you can call for a professional opinion.
