New Nut Allergy Confusion?!

Question: My 4 year ols judt had a reaction to pistachios that sent us to the ER. We have an allergist appointment set up, but in the mean time we are to avoid all nuts. Does this mean we have to avoid foods that are manufactured in a factory that also produces nut products that he has eaten in the past?

YES! If the package says anything like that then you need to stear clear of it. Its entirely possible that your son isn't allergic to all nuts, but the risk is too great at the moment. Like, I'm allergic to pecans and walnuts but not peanuts. Once you've had the allergy testing done, then you may be able to relax the restrictions on your son's diet, but wait until then. be aware that some products still don't have the necessary labeling info on the back. READ CAREFULLY!!!! Cereals, cookies, breads, etc can have trace amounts of nuts. Check out the Food anaphylaxis network online to read up on the latest developments in nut allergies. Good Luck!!!

yes. If he is severely allergic to nuts, he can have a reaction to anything that came in contact with nuts. Some people with nut alergies have a reaction with the smallest pieces of nutty stuff. I would avoid all of it until you see the allergist

If possible. I would.

my sun is allergic to peanuts and he eat food that say manufactured in a factory that also produces nut products and has no problem. If he eat it before it should be OK
