Fed up with anti-smokers?!

Question: I am having a little rant as im fed-up with people telling me what to do with MY life, and complaining about me smoking. I am always making sure i dont smoke around non-smokers and appreciate the fact that its not a good habit..But is drinkdrivers? Lets say...you go down the road, have a few beers, get in the car...20 mins later (or whatever) you have taken someones life? I dont see no health warnings on drink, just yet.BUT shouldnt have they done that a while back....I hate our government...Apparently in the future or soon, the NHS have a choice to operate on smokers or not, EVEN though WE pay TAX on cigarettes. Sorry....thats me done!

I havent heard about surgeons having the choice to operate on smokers or not, but thats actually an interesting topic. In Aus, they have just started putting warnings on alcohol bottles such as "Drinking when pregnant can harm your unborn child" and the like. I agree with you when you say they should have done it sooner because its definately a cause for concern. However, when you say a drink driver can just get in their car and kill someone ect, then esentially yes they can. But thats the biggest reason why drink driving is illegal and these people get charged for this. As far as i know, drinkers are also taxed by the governments when they buy alcohol too. You are right though, people shouldnt tell you what to do with your life, its your life after all and if you chose to smoke, you chose to smoke. The problem is alot of people dont like smoking and alot of people feel entitled to their opinion so they'll probably keep bombarding you with how they feel about it. All you can do is tell them to keep their opinions to themselves because you dont appreciate that.

lighten up?

good rant. have a star

I dont drink or smoke...

But smoking is an absolute NO NO

Drinking is bad but its ok in moderation!

x

you wont find any sympathy from me. Don't smoke and you wont have anything to complain about

I agree. Now I am away to sit on my own far away from all the non smokers for a puff.

stop bitching. smoking is a disgusting habit and you should know better than to pay to deliberatley kill yourself. have a bit of respect for people who want to be healthy and not get cancer from your smoke.

Yea the US is not big on smoking. But did you know Germany and some other European country. Everybody there smokes!!! My friend visited and she was so shocked everybody did. And they offer her a cig and she said no I don't smoke. And they started laughing and calling her a "crazy american". Maybe you should live there if it really bothers you :)

i'm with you on that, i get fed up of being frowned upon and made to feel disgusting, we all know its not a nice habbit, and that it stinks and its bad for you, but boy does it taste good, and its soooo hard to quit when you actually enjoy it !

Well, I can't say I know how you feel. I've been smoking for the past 6 years but none of the non-smokers I know have ever complained.

I completely agree. I went to Austin for the first time a few months ago and I loved it. Then I found out you can't smoke ANYWHERE, bars, resturaunts, doesn't matter. I just hate laws like that; if I own a business and want to let smokers into it then that's my business, not the governments. There's my rant =)

I have a tendency to agree with you,Do this,Don't do that,I am an adult and i can make my own mistakes. And learn from them.

I m an ex smoker, but not bothered about who smokes,my hubby does , and they say the ex smokers are the worst Not true ,Dont worry its good to have a moan now and again,Smoke to you,r hearts content,i used to it was my choice to stop,Ask them what their vices are,x

Carry on and smoke - it's your life.

Just don't whinge and moan when you are 60, lay in a hospital bed with a hold in your throat and an oxygen tank strapped to your ****.

Hmm...touchy subject which made me have many discussion.
So I wont say much, only that I have heard all my life excuses that smoking is not that bad.
I have been raised in a home where everybody were smoking despite I had asthma.
I see myself as a quite flexible person towards smokers, but I wish they were as well towards me.

It's not so much the anti smokers, as so much the effing politicians who dictate what we can and can't do.
I am currently in a position where I need to get a job (I've been running my own company for 10 years before), and guess what...
I can't work in an office anymore, or any enclosed space for that matter, and I can't even do a driving job, because some trumped up n o b head has decided I cannot smoke in such places.
I drink as well, but agree with you on drink drive laws in the current climate.... Years ago, you'd just get done for careless driving, but nowadays, seeing as more people are drunk on a regular basis, it would be a bit like driving dogem cars.

I dont smoke but I agree 100%. If someone chooses to smoke, let them. It's a prejudice, plain and simple. People today feel the need to judge people and make comments to them no matter what they do. It's just like someone making a remark to an obese person in line at McDonalds.

If that is what you enjoy- dont let people criticize you for it. You know the risks, you sound like you know what's up. There are many, many worse things in the world for people to ***** about. If smoking makes you happy, what the hell? It's all about living day to day and doing what works for you.

If more people would mind their own business and keep their unsolocited advice to themselves, I think we'd be a happier society in general.

And for the record, I think the cost of cigarette's is RIDICULOUS!!! How can anyone even afford to smoke these days!??! I remember when it was $1.10 a pack!!

I understand your frustration but comparing a drunken driver to smoking is wrong headed. Drunken driving doesn't make it ok for you to smoke or vice versa. You maybe would feel different if you had to go through what I have went through because of "second hand smoke" . I got bladder cancer from it. ! For YOUR health sake and no one elses, you should quit smoking.....but then you already know that.

Drinking and driving is illegal and has fairly stiff penalties . Drinking in moderation is fine and does not affect anyone else
I have no problem is people smoking so long as they do it with thoughts of others around them , similarly I don't mind dogs around but can't stand those owners who completely ignore the bin for the dog mess which is about 5 yards from the dogs little message !!
I believe there will be messages on alcohol soon , but really do these and the ones on cigarettes really do any good . I know it won't stop me having the odd beer or glass of wine .
And you are right virtually all of us contribute to the NHS throughout our lives and we should all qualify for medical support . However smokers who have lung disease and refuse to stop and need to use oxygen , and alcoholics who refuse to stop drinking even when their liver is shot to hell make the NHS decisions a bit more difficult that they need be.
There I have just added to your rant , and even managed to get in my real issue with dog owners who allow their pest to foul our streets and parks !!

Us smokers pay more than enough tax to cover any hospital expenses. With money to spare, so the non-smokers cant hold that one over us. I get fedup with all these control issues.
They even want us to die because we smoke. How sad is that!

Well I don't mind people smoking being an ex smoker myself. But I am glad that the smoking ban went through as being around smoke made me sick and meant I had to start avoiding most places. I agree that alcohol doesn't have the same warnings yet but I am certain that will change soon enough and alcohol only effects the user.

I have diabetes, and other people know it. So after that 3rd or 4th donut , maybe someone should say " STOP.........you're killing yourself "!!!! After all ,who wants to pay the hospital bill for someone ,when the insurance runs out? The public? Maybe people are tired of seeing other people kill themselves and asking others to pay for it! Maybe they're saying , I should LEAVE THE DONUT ON THE PLATE AND STEP AWAY !!!!
And I should , RIGHT?

YOU have cancer or very well might have it in your life time , and EVERYBODY knows it !! So don't be mad if someone says " STOP.........you're killing yourself and I don't want to pay for your mistake".

And you should , RIGHT?

are you having a smoke now?

Its not just smokers the NHS will stop treating, its the obese and Alcoholics too. Infact they wont give you a liver transplant if you still drink, and won't give you a gastric bypass if you don't prove you can loose weight before, so it works the same for everyone who won't try and help themselves.

As long as you smoke away from people, which you claim you do, then i don't have a problem with that - it's your life!

My 42 year old Aunt has just been told she has months to live because of Lung Cancer caused by 20 years of smoking. It has spread to her brain, liver and glands and it's terminal. We are all devastated, especially her 2 children and my grandparents who are going to have to watch her die because she chose to smoke.

My grandfather also died a horrific, undignified death because of smoking.

THAT is why I am personally against it.

Smoking is the most common preventable cause of death in the developed world. World wide it is the second most common cause of death overall ( infectious diseases as a whole are first. ) I wish that smoking would be banned or taxed at
