What is Hypothyroidism, and how do you know if you have it or not?!

Question: I'm not trying to self diagnose myself, but I think I might have this - or at least I have some of the symptoms.

I read that it's ore common in women, though. Can guys have this at all?

How do I find out if I have it?

Simple blood test by your doctor can determine if you have it.

Yes males can get it but usually it only affects females. Also it occurs in 1 out of every 5000 births.

Symptoms develop slowly taking months or years.
It may feel like your whole body is slowing down, general aches and pains, heart may slow down to 50bpm, digestive system may become constipated.
You may eat less but gain weight
May cold more often
Hair becomes dry and lifeless, skin dries and thickens
May have deeper voice

You need a blood test. The definitive blood test for hypothyroidism is called TSH or Thyroid Stimulating Hormone test. This simply tests how much TSH your pituitary gland is releasing to get your thyroid gland to produce TSH.

Hypothyroidism effects every organ in your body. The symptoms vary, but include fatigue, dry skin, constipation, and also some weight gain. They can also include depression.

The good news is that it is highly treatable with a thyroid supplement. Your TSH levels will need to be monitored, but most people have no problems with this.

Good luck to you.
