I think that information websites are BS!?!

Question: I read on every website that you have to wait up to 6 months after having sex to get tested for HIV, i mean that sounds ridiculous! what are the chances of that? A NEGATIVE positive after 6 months? i would think even a few weeks or 2 months after should show! my mom talked to 2 pharmacist at the CVS that have been working at hospitals for manyy years.. and they said that after possible exposure you can get a blood test right away and it will show up, just like any other virus, infection, sickness, etc..would. they said that after some people have sex they come in and buy a home test the next day!! so i dont trust these websites anymore! i mean really 6 MONTHS TO SHOW UP! I MEAN COME ON! I REALLY HOPE NOT! cause then alot of people are not really gonna know they're results! anyway what do you think? and whats ur HIV story?

Before, websites and the CDC stated it is best to even be tested at the 1 year mark after a possible risk exposure. Mind you, during this time they weren't aware about how advanced the antibody testing was for HIV.
Now, websites and the CDC state that you should be tested at the 6 month mark. While, yes - it is rare to finally have a conclusive result at that time. There are reasons why they have to state this.

If you have had surgery, are anemic, or have had chemo and your immune system is to run down to make the level of antigens needed - you may not have a conclusive test until the 6 month mark. This is more a comfirmatory for those who might be too ill and haven't seroconvented yet.

Standard HIV tests are considered accurate at 3 months. A fraction of one percent of people may take up to 6 months to seroconvert (create the antibodies the HIVtests look for).
HIV is active virtually instantly once inside the body.
More than 99.9% of people experience a window period of 3 months or less. 95% - less than 2 months. 75% less than 20 days.

Most authorities consider the window period to be 3 months.

Many people still get a test at the 6 month mark; more so as a peace of mind they don't have the virus. Some websites seem to have a bit of the "scare factor" going on for them - yes, I have felt it myself. Yet, you need to look to see if your websites are accredited with correct information.

Good Luck!
