Irritable bowel?!

Question: Do you know something to avoid a huge stomach because of irritable bowel?

Answers: Do you know something to avoid a huge stomach because of irritable bowel?

Hmm. If you have a distended stomach, and told you have IBS (which is really an umbrella diagnosis for 'we don't really know what's wrong') then this could be due to a variety of reasons.

Distension could be due to gas due to whats going on in the stomach/gut; or the retention of partially digested foods (which implies maybe that you suffer from constipation from the IBS); or could be due to parasites (gut based which could also be linked into the first two issues).

The strategies I personally found are working well for me include the regular use of a good quality probiotic supplement. Most of us in the West (about three quarters have compromised gut bacteria due to the type of food we eat and other lifestyle issues (details here: http://www.gonando.com/probiotics.html ) probiotics can help get the balance back in order (helped by some other dietary modifications) although it will take anywhere from 1 to 3 months to start to feel real difference. The probiotic I use is organic, and the important constituents (the lactobacillus strains) are obtained from vegetable sources (NOT fecal sources like some products!! yeuch!): https://saferalternative.mionegroup.com/... read details here.

The issue of parasites is one that is often ignored by typical medical advice, but considering a colon cleanse to start with a fresh canvas (then use the probiotics - of course): Some reviews of some key detoxing and cleansing programs here:

You should also look at the die you consume -- naturally many issues that relate to IBS can be hidden here things that can help:
-- getting all processed foods; sugary foods; sugary drinks (like cola, commercial juices especially those from concentrates) out of your diet; little or (better still) no alcohol
-- eat plenty of green veges, and
-- keep meat consumption down to a minimum.
-- Avoid dairy products (milk can be the basis of many folks problems).
-- Consume regular glasses of fresh clean water (a good mineral water like Volvic or Evian from a trusted clean source for example) -- about half a pint an hour through the day. Keeping well hydrated can help a bloating problem as you flush toxins out, and it helps avoid constipation problems.

A more complete explanation of how to modify your diet for health (it refers to immune system - which of course helps with IBS in a big way): http://www.gonando.com/boost-immune-syst...

And a final tip or two - to look at how alkalizing your diet can help you there are a series of videos here that are fascinating -- plus a list of 'good food' to try and work more often into your diet:
http://www.gonando.com/alkaline-foods.ht...

You can understand how your system can end up out of balance more clearly with these references if you really want to get to the bottom of things. This has helped many people:

or (a bit less technical)

Hope this helps. After years of IBS myself - and years of hospital tests with no results this way the only way I began to get on top of things.

(ADDED: I just noticed angel (below) suggest that IBS is not an umbrella illness!! I want to be clear IBS IS a diagnosis that means the doctors DO NOT KNOW what the problem is! In this way it is an umbrella diagnosis (not illness) because it covers a multitude of possible problems all of which center round the gut. The GUT is affected mainly by the stuff you put in it (what you eat and drink) and by your emotional stress levels...There may be other things, but they usually relate to the things mentioned. But you can make real steps forward deal with this problem IF you adopt a better diet, and build up your healthy gut environment (the right bacteria balance)...AND find ways to reduce any stress you are suffering...To be clear -- I am also a long term sufferer of some 25+ years since late teens, and only in the last three years since I did my own research -- stopped taking pills/prescriptions (which did little or nothing for me) -- and took more natural, dietary, gut health, de-tox and de-stress steps have things returned almost to normal, which I began to think would NEVER happen.

I agree with angel -- IBS is not to be sneered at...and it can be very debilitating, and socially crippling.)

when i get a huge tummy, i use a hot water bottle. To avoid it i dont eat late at night, i try and walk aroung after i have eaten. All food effects me different , if im stressed , all food m makes me bad . It all effects me differnt times.

well for me it was caffine, i cut that out by drinking decaff and bang no more other than caused by stress

Peppermint oil. Avoid pastry.

IBS is very painful and is not an umbrella illness. If you have a word with your GP he should be able to give you tablets. I take one called Collpermin. It is a very slow release capsules with , among other things, peppermint oil. Avoid pastry at all costs and any hard fat. Try not to eat for quite some time. I have had IBS for many years and it is a condition not to be sneered at. I sympathise with anyone who has it

Like Randa I have been a sufferer for 35 years. Doctors told me all sorts of things, grumbling appendix, peptic ulcer. Not till I had my second child got a new doctor and went for X-ray. Nothing showed up of course. Doctor explained it is sort like excezma of the bowel and something irritates it. Stress is the hardest one to deal with and find I need tablets to help.
