Are homosexuals more likely to transmit/obtain diseases than heterosexuals?!

Question: This question is posed in the wake of a recent law in Canada that prohibits sexually active homosexuals from donating certain organs at risk of disease. Is there any truth in this? Please provide references/sources. Also, please no religious viewpoints.

I'm of the opinion that it just seems ludicrous to think this. Risk of disease/STI's is completely dependent on how you have sex, not who you have sex with. Proper protection, not being promiscuous, etc, are some things that both homo/heterosexual people deal with. Thoughts?

In the USA the Red Cross prohibits homosexuals from donating blood, yet heterosexual females have one of the highest rates of new infections of HIV. White homosexual men have one of the lowest rates of infection.

Perhaps that's because AIDS has been described as the "gay plague" and heterosexuals have felt too secure to take precaution while the gay community has been educated now for over 25 years about the transmission of the disease and what precaution needs to be taken

I agree with you that not being promiscuous and also using protection are vital in fighting the spread of HIV, whether you're gay or straight.

It's how promiscuous, uncautious and how unpicky you are. Basically, iot doesnt matter if youre gay or not, if you sleep around a lot, THATS Sti risk, not just because you're gay. its discrimination to think it is.

I think its how they have sex. Im shooting in the dark on this one but I believe that homosexuals probably have unprotected sex due to the fact there is no risk of conception. Thus leading to higher chances to transmit diseases. I dont think they have sex more or less than heterosexuals, just that the way in which they do so need not be "safe-sex"

I hope that helps.

I also believe that homosexuals are more promisicus than hetrosexuals. Also, I know that homosexuals do "bare backing" because they know they won't get pregnant. In Australia, the majority of HIV+ people are homosexual and I wonder why myself.
