Help with low sodium diets for a person with Meniere's disease?!

Question: Hi everybody! My father was recently diagnosed with Meniere's disease. This has taken a huge toll on our family and it affects him as well as us. I need some help with some low sodium recipes that I can cook for him that he can eat. He cannot have any sodium in his diet because of the vertigo and the spells that come from it. Any meals that you know of that have no salt would be great and please share! Thank you! =)

Hi,
I'd just get lots of fresh stuff and cook with that - fresh produce, meats, etc. If you buy a lot of pre-made frozen foods, they usually have a lot of sodium and preservatives in them. When you cook just leave out the salt on the recipes.

My grandmother has Meniere's disease, I thought you'd be happy to hear that she is doing just great - she will be 101 years old this year, and she's had Meniere's since she was in her 30's. She still lives at home, has had a very full, active life.
I hope that gives you and your dad some hope.

Good luck.

Well, I have been cooking low sodium for years. I did not have a special recipie book...I just started purchasing stuff with low sodium or no sodium in it and omiting it from everything else. At first things tasted funny but, now I don't notice it unless I eat something with the "normal' amount of sodium and then it will taste really salty.

It might be harder for you though, because he may only be able to tolerate so many miligrams of Sodium and so you might have to really pay attention to it.

If you put Low Sodium into Amazon though, you will come up with lots of books that can be used as resources for you.

Here are some internet links that might be helpful as well:

Hope that helps, Meniere's is not a fun thing to live with.
