I've been a Type 1 diabetic for forty years, and I've been very lucky. So far I have almost no sign of any of the usual side-effects. You may not be so lucky.
Why do you do this? It's like sticking a band-aid on your knuckle and then cutting your finger off.
Are you doing it to show yourself that you're not controlled by the diabetes? You are, you know. It's like being tall, it affects your whole life.
Are you doing it because injecting is such a miserable thing to do all the time? Find something else to do to distract you.
When you find a good book, read ten pages after you inject, if you like to call your friends, make one call after your shot.
Want to get totally grossed out and put yourself off candies and doughnuts for ever? Look at these pictures:

DO NOT LOOK AT THESE BEFORE A MEAL, OR IF YOU HATE HORROR MOVIES.

Well I will tell you what I do. I pray to God above for help. Just tell him that you promise that you won't eat many sweets that is going to run your blood sugar out of control and I guarantee you that when you start to sneak something then he will give you his chastizement and make you put it back. I done that and now I don't eat half as many sweets as I used to and I am a type 1 diabetic also.

I believe these cravings are similar to the cravings for alcohol and you are certainly not the only one who craves sweets. And ithey're all around us. Just look around at all the shelves filled with sugary stuff. It makes me want to cry sometimes.

It is not easy to overcome that craving. However, one thing is true, and you can try it. Eat no sweets, and cut down on bread and buns and other high carb foods for about 5 days or more. You will lose the craving. The less you eat this stuff the less you want. You have to be strong.

Perhaps you can do a trade off. Write down all the sugary foods you crave and eat. Then for each one perhaps you can find a healthier substitute. For example:

Popcorn instead of ice cream
A little bit of plain chocolate instead of a hard candy
Half an apple (or your favorite fruit)
Some peole substitute something sour like pickles, and this satisfies a craving for sweet. Buy your favorite kind of pickle.

When I crave sweets my favorite substitute is some whey protein (chocolate flavored) in a glass of milk. This is very tasty and very healthy as well.

When you go shopping or to the store don't bring anything home like ice cream or donuts.

Did you know that one hard candy can have as much as 7 to 10 teaspoons of sugar in it? So if you have 5 hard candies, that's about 40 teaspoons of sugar. No wonder that diabetes is on the upswing.

Wish you loads of luck!!!

.

Bug Bites. Thats the solution. I found these little inch and a half square organic dark chocolate bites, and if I want something sweet, I have a bug bite becuase they are basically free...so no matter.
Try Trader Joe's or Whole foods...Bug bites, just look them up/
