A friend is having a full body ct bone scan, to check for any cancer anywhere?!

Question: What were your experiences if you had a similar one done?

Answers: What were your experiences if you had a similar one done?

I assume that this scan is being instigated as a result of being diagnosed with cancer and the purpose of the check is to see if it has spread anywhere else? That being the case it is fairly straight forward and they won't experience any pain or side effects and the results from today's high resolution multslice CT scanners are quite exceptional and definitely worth doing to confirm that there is no evidence of any cancer any where else.

On the other hand if there is no strong or valid reason to have the scan, such as that indicated above there doesn't seem to be much point.

Keep in mind that there are risks with everything and as far as the scans are concerned, you are being exposed to relatively high levels of radiation, but the benefits far out way the negatives. Certainly was the case with myself anyway.

NO I HAVEN'T BUT CAN TELL YOU TO TELL YOUR FRIEND TO GO TO DR. MERKIN.COM AND READ ABOUT CT SCANS THEN HAVE HER CHECK OUT THE CANCER SECTION OF THIS SAME SITE SHE WILL BE ENLIGHTEN TO THE DANGER OF THE CT SCAN AND ALSO GET ALL THE LINKS AND TREATMENT IN THE WORLD FOR ANY CANCER PROBLEMS THIS SITE IS A ONE OF A KIND AND CAN HELP HER MORE THAN ANY DOC CAN SHE NEEDS TO RESEARCH ALL BEFORE HAVING THIS DONE JFB

I got something radioactive put in me by an IV. Then I was put in the machine for a while as it moved slowly up my body. It wasn't a bad experience.

Ct scans may easily miss many types of cancer, especially if this is being done for diagnosis. I'd call that malpractice and a scam.

I had one done after being diagnosed with breast cancer. It was no big deal except that it took a while since it is a full body scan. As long as she isn't claustrophobic she'll do fine since the scanner is quite close to the body..

its not a painful experience they wrap you tightly with a sheet while you lie on a small table. you are wrapped to keep you from moving. then you are passed into a machine which is open at each end and it slowly passes over your body. it take a little while to do the procedure. but not near as long to do the PET scan. i had no problem with it.

its no big deal i have one done once a year to see if my cancer has spread or not takes any where from 20 Min's to a hour depending on what they have to do the noise is the worst part
