How would someone know if they had pneumonia without going to a Dr.?!

Question: Pneumonia is an infection of the lung that affects 1 out of 100 people annually. Viral pneumonia is caused by one of several viruses, including influenza, parainfluenza, adenovirus, rhinovirus, herpes simplex virus, respiratory syncytial virus, hantavirus, and cytomegalovirus.

Most cases of viral pneumonia are mild and get better without treatment, but some cases are more serious and require hospitalization. People at risk for more serious viral pneumonia typically have impaired immune systems such as people with HIV, transplant patients, young children (especially those with heart defects), the elderly, and people taking medications to suppress their immune systems in the treatment of autoimmune disorders.

Symptoms

* Cough
* Headache
* Muscular stiffness and aching
* Shortness of breath
* Fever
* Chills
* Sweating
* Fatigue
* Sore throat

Additional symptoms that may be associated with this disease:

* Nausea and vomiting
* Joint stiffness

When to Contact a Medical Professional:

Call your health care provider if symptoms of viral pneumonia develop.

Take a deep breath, if your chest feels tight, that's a sign of pneumonia.....and shortness of breath, coughing. That's w/o going to the doctor.....but u should go(chest x-ray is sure confirmation)

Some clues to the possiblity of pneumonia would be:

wheezing when you breathe
pain in your chest when you breathe
shortness of breath
getting winded very quickly when doing anything

If you think you have pneumonia please go to your doctor!

check this website. it is very informative about pneumonia...
if it is pneumonia it will not get better without treatment..

You need to go to the doctor's to get checked out. That is why there are doctors...there are many subtle symptoms and some obvious ones. Coughing hard, breathing hard, wheezing,...however, not everyone has the same or all the symptoms.

No way to know 100 per cent without a chest x ray
