Its an anti-fungal drug taken by mouth or administered via IV infusion used to treat parasitic infections including Giardia infections of the small intestine, amebic liver abscess and amebic dysentery (infection of the colon causing bloody diarrhea), bacterial vaginosis, trichomonas, vaginal infections. Also used alone or in combination with other antibiotics i.e. (vancomycin) in treating abscesses in the liver, pelvis, abdomen and brain caused by susceptible anaerobic bacteria. Metronidazole is also used in treating infection of the colon caused by a bacterium called C. difficile aka (C Diff)
PREGNANCY: Metronidazole is not used in early pregnancy because of potential adverse effects on the fetus.
NURSING MOTHERS: Metronidazole is excreted in breast milk. Nursing mothers, because of potential adverse effects on the newborn, should not use metronidazole.

I used to get bv a lot because of a botched surgery.... the medication gives you a nasty yeast infection once you stop taking it... about day three after it... so start taking acidophilus pills now to get your body back in track... its the only thing that kept me from going crazy .
i have used flagyl a lot i used it for urinary tract infections as a antibiotic but im sure there is plenty of diffrent uses for it
It is an antifungal (so NOT for urinary tract infections, more likely for vaginal infections: thrush) which will cause extreme drowsiness if combined with alcohol, it can make one nauseous (wanting to puke) too. It also works well against bacteria which will grows with alsmost no oxygen (anaerobes, in practice mostly intestinal bacteria, or the infamous Clostridium difficile which occurs in the bowel after a course of antibiotic and can make people very ill indeed.
Flagyl- used for many things. It will leave a taste in your mouth like "metal" Sun sensitivity also. Some people have to take it long tern for Crohn's disease and other colon problems. It is a good drug but yeast infections of vagina and mouth can and will develop. Talk with doctor.
