Why is Proactiv Drying Out My Skin?!

Question: This is the 2nd time that I've used Proactiv. I've been using it for about, 3 days now and I can definitely see results but the Refining Mask severely drys out my skin, but it works great. The thing is, the 1st time I started using Proactiv it didn't dry out my skin one bit. So why is it doing it now? And what can I do to fix it/Prevent it?

i use it as well...it will take about a week or two for your skin to find its balance, mine did anyway....i use the 3 step to wash, toner, and lotion....i have to use the lotion sparsley though...only on the dry areas (cheeks, forehead)....the refining mask should only be used on a pimple....just dab a little on the pimple....i usually do this at bed time....leave it on while you sleep....when i bought proactive (yearssss ago) they said the refining mask was supposed to go all over your face for 10 min then wash off....if you see the comercials they have been running lately, they say to use just a dab on problem areas.....works for me

Just use it every other day! That's what I did and it works great like that!

I noticed that too! I've been using the Refining Mask less for that reason. Also I've been moisturizing more often to counteract the drying. I dont' want to stop using it, I'm really starting to see results.

Well, that's kinda what it's supposed to do. Your skin probably changed between the first time you used it and now. It will probably even out in a week or so. Proactiv does make a moisturizer that has the same acne-fighting ingredient (salicylic acid I think?) that can help, but any lightweight, oil-free moisturizer will probably do the trick.

Are you using the Facial moisture replenishing lotion?

If yes. . .you should not worry about that.
