Thank you for your answers.

Picture your colon as a long, thin walled tube. It can get little pouches off it, called diverticulae. When a diverticulum gets inflamed/infected, that is diverticulitis. (-itis added to anything means "inflamed"). These diverticulae are very common as the colon ages, occurring in weak spots in the muscular wall under the wear and tear of normal usage. Things that make the colon work harder (constipation, etc...) make them worse. These things can bleed, too, sometimes briskly.

Keep your colon healthy be eating a high-fiber diet low in chemical soaked foods. The easier it is for food to move through, the less trauma to the colon. As for not eating small seeds and such, interestingly, it has never been proven to have any impact on diverticular disease. Still, that bit of advice makes logical sense.

To help prevent diverticulitis:
Eat a high-fiber diet that is low in fat and red meat.
Drink plenty of water.
Exercise regularly.
If you have had diverticulitis before, try to avoid using nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). This type of medicine could raise your risk of diverticulitis problems.

Sorry to hear about all that.
Goto "www.wikipedia.org" and do the search for diverticulitis.

It is explained there quite well. Diet fiber needs to be increased.

Google it or get info from your own doctor if you can or better yet, if you have health insurance, have them send you literature about it. That being said, here's my own experience with this wonderful issue. There's the Diverticulitis and the Diverticulosis (if I spelled that right). What Diverticulitis is basically tiny "pouches" or fissures in the lining of the colon. And that's it. Most Americans have this with no ill effects, don't even know they have it in fact. This is mainly due to a low fiber diet, easy enough to fix by increasing your fiber intake. What happens next is the Diverticulous. Hard food items (seeds, nuts, beef jerky) things that don't digest very well will lodge themselves into these pouches and become infected. When this happens, you'll know it. If you ever had a kidney stone or been punched in the stomach by Mike Tyson, it's kind of like that. If it gets to that stage, you'll probably have to go to the hospital for a few days. Trust me, better safe than sorry on this one! Be an old person & take Metamusil everyday and you should be fine. Good luck.

Diverticulitis is an inflamation of the diverticula (pouches) which have developed on the linning of the large intestines. It could be a painful condition which can present with other symptoms like diarrhoea and fever. I will advise you type in the condition onto google search engine and you will get more details of what you need.
Good luck!
