Hi sweetie:

First of all, it would be helpful to know how old you are.

Second, the symptoms would include increased hunger, increased thirst (to the point where you have to carry a glass of water with you at all times), increased urination, feeling hot all the time, weight loss, and tiredness.

If you are over weight, you MUST lose some beginning today.
Obesity is the number 1 cause of diabetes, other than hereditary.

Please go to www.webmd.com. Click on diseases and pick the letter "D" and find Diabetes. It's a wonderful site with all kinds of information.

Diabetes is not a disease to fool with. One may think they just have go give up sugar. It is much more than that. But if you are a teen, overweight, you may be able to control any inclination to diabetes by diet alone.

Like I said, start today: Avoid ALL REFINED SUGAR. yes!!!
Use only sweeteners and diet drinks.

Reduce your carb intake (if it's white it's a carb plus all colors of breads, even high fiber ones. They are all made with flour which is a carb). Eat only one carb serving per meal. Carbs turns to sugar inside the body. Try to eat no fats/oils. Some is unavoidable and those are the only ones you need. Fat does only one thing: turns to fat. Fried foods of all kinds are the worst kind for you and weight control. Eat gobs and gobs of skinless chicken with all kinds of seasonings/dips, topping salads even. All kinds of fish. All broiled, baked, boiled. Never fried. Play with seasonings. Make sauces and gravies out of cream soups,,,,,yummy. Eat all kinds of green veggies and salads. All you want! Fill up on them. You need never go hungry!!

It's the inability of your body to burn carbs/sugars that makes you a diabetic. Each and every cell of the body has what I call a tiny factory in it and the fuel it uses is sugar to keep running. Insulin is the key to the factory door in each cell. Sugars have to piggyback on this key in order to get into the factory and be burned. Without enough insulin, the sugar just runs around in the blood stream, giving you a "high blood sugar" number. High sugar running around in your blood stream kills your arteries.....thus, the bad circulation to the extremeties, eyes, kidneys, etc. That is why you hear of people going blind, or having kidney failure, not to mention getting a wound on their foot and it doesn't get well, then amputee!!!!

So you see, diabetes is a serious disease. If you have it now, even if it is just a little. Stop it quick with your diet first. See your MD immediately for medicine to help your pancreas shoot insulin into the bloodstream and get the sugars where they belong.

Keep in mind, we can all have some of the symptoms that I mentioned above. Just because you are tired doesn't make you a diabetic. Just because you drink a lot and pee a lot doesn't make you a diabetic. You pretty much have to have all the symptoms.

Wouldn't hurt though for you to eat healthier, lose weight, increase your exercise, and if the symptoms persist after a month, go see your doctor.

Good luck, and God Bless you

Frequent Thirsts, urination, tiredness, and eating more but losing wieght,

Coming from someone who's grandparents (all of them) diabetic as well as my father passing away at 53 from diabetes and a 14yr old daughter with it too, I can safely answer this question. Sometimes there is no symptoms, sometimes there are some like: weight gain, dizziness, numbness on your fingers, legs and feet, thirsty all the time, frequent urination, blurred vision, and that's only some. If you have any of these see a doctor asap. If you eat a lot of sugar is not the only way to become diabetic, it could be hereditary or if you eat lots of carbs, carbs turn to sugar too. Believe it or not, even things like, apples, watermelon, canteloupe or pineapples, can cause it, due to the high fructose (natural sugars) content. Good luck, I hope things are ok with you.

Frequent urination, thirsty, you feel jittery after having a high carb meal (pancakes with syrup for example).

Some are very minor, so you should really have your doctor check it. The sooner they find, the better it is for you. If it is early enough, you might be bale to treat by just changing your diet.

Fiel is correct, the following may also constitute symptoms,

Darkly coloured, highly scented urine
Numbness under the feet
Wounds/sores take longer than normal / usual to heal.

Maybe you should check yours. You have the options of using the urine strip, the blood sugar test or do the medical 24hour diabetes test.

They call diabetes the silent killer for a reason. You should see a doctor if you feel you may have it. They will take a finger stick blood test and then if indicated will have you come in for a test called the A1c, which averages the glucose level in your blood over a certain time period.
Diabetics also may at times have low blood sugar as well. Some symptoms may include weakness, grouchyness, and nausea.
Diabetes can be treated and although it is presently incurable, can be managed where someone can have a relatively normal lifestyle. One would need to alter the way that they eat and get some exercise. Untreated, it could lead to organ damage, blindness, neuropathy, slow healing, impotence, and many other complications. There is also a relationship between diabetes and heart disease, and triglycerides.
