Does this sound like possible diabetes?!

Question: My daughter who is 9 years old has been having some problems lately. She is incredibly hungry and thirsty constantly. She can eat a full course meal and have to eat again literally 30 mins. later. Lately we have been noticing that she has been using the bathroom and awful lot also. Her school had actually contacted me to leave me know that one day last week she actually had gone 7 times in one day. She also has been having some really bad mood swings and getting tired very fast. We are going to schedule an appt. for her but just wanted some input from anyone on here that might have an idea or recognize some of the symptoms. Thanks for the help!!

I have been living with and helping my diabetic husband for 18 years. Your daughter's symptoms sounds very much like she might have diabetes. Only her doctor through blood test will know for sure. I'm glad you are aware of her problems and have taken steps to get her checked out.

I'm sending you the physical signs of diabetes, which are the following:

1. being very thirsty
2. frequent urination
3 extreme hunger
4. increased fatigue
5. losing weight without trying
6. blurry vision
7. irritability
8. sores that are slow to heal
9. dry, itchy skin
10. tingling or loss of feeling in hands or feet
11. frequent infections, especially yeast infections

Also I wanted to add that a person with diabetes at onset may or may not have all of these symptoms. My husband had the extreme thirst, but I did not. He gained weight, and I lost weight. The most common symptoms however in almost all diabetics is: extreme hunger, thirst, and fatigue.

Here are some very good websites you might want to check out for more information on diabetes: www.webmd.com, mayoclinic.com, about.com, and prevention.com.

Good luck with your daughter. Hope this helps a little.

Have a blessed day!

If diabetes turns out to be a real possibility I really urge you to read something like DR R O Young's book - pH Miracle for Diabetes which explains great success with dietary intervention:

Get her in to the doctor as fast as you can, ask for an emergency appt. today. I believe she has diabetes and needs to be treated NOW...

Definitely sounds like it. Don't wait. Get her to a doctor ASAP. I was diagnosed at 9 years old. I had the same symptoms, along with drastic weight loss, severe stomach pain every time I ate, and dizziness. If it is diabetes, try not to be terrified. It is very manageable. It will change the way she, and the whole family, live, but it is usually a change to a healthier way of living. Contact me through here if you want to have someone who has been through it to talk to.

it does sound familiar as I'm diabetic but it could be behavioural as the more you put in the more has to come out, sometimes kids just over eat and get addicted to it and sometimes they use food as a means of coping with a problem or depression. these symptoms also fit a hyper thyroid condition. i know cause i had that too. even at your daughters age hormones can affect every aspect of your life, the thyroid gland (sometimes known as your Adams apple) secrets too much hormone that sets the metabolic rate ( your bodies capacity to react) and when that is out it causes every hormone to be unbalanced. the only way you can tell if its either or none of these is a blood test.

Yes, it does sound like diabetes. I was diagnosed at six and I had all these symptoms.

It's not the end of the world, it is very treatable and life can continue normally with the right treatment.

Make an emergency appointment at your Doctor's Surgery. Your daughter will have to spend a few days in hospital, but that is perfectly normal.

Good Luck!

those are some of the symtoms of diabetes. take her to a doctor ASAP.
