My hands are dry & cracked from winter cold?!

Question: whats the best treatment?

Load them up with aquaphor or vaseline before bed and put a pair of socks on your hands for the night to seal in moisture.

It might be uncomfortable, but it will soften them by morning.

crack creme in the lotion area

vaseline or petroleum jelly is the main ingredient in a lot of lotions and creams. You can also look for 100% cocoa butter which usually is sold in stick form at Walgreens and at some Dollar stores. At night, slather Vaseline on them and wear a pair of cotton gloves to bed or you can put plastic baggies on them and wear regular knit gloves over them. It helps to put lotion on every time you wash your hands too.

Aquaphor (pharmacy) or vaseline and cotton gloves (pharmacy) at night when you go to bed.

Take a multiple vitamin with minerals to make sure you have enough vitamins.

Avoid using harsh liquid anti-bacterial soaps at work or in hospitals. If you use a liquid soap a few times and it burns your hands, then don't use it again.

Wear protective gloves if doing work that requires it.

During the day any cream with shea butter is very good.

I use beyond belief moisturizer that I buy from Sally's beauty supply.

Hello,
I found this Natural Hand cream. This is really effective and works darn near over night. I work with harsh solvents and outdoors, so I needed this. Check this out.

If you have paraphin wax - that is really helpful. (melt the wax and cover your hands in the wax - ie like they do at the spa)

Also try warming your hands with warm water then covering them with vitamin e oil / cocoa butter / eucerine lotion - put cotton gloves on and sleeping with them on.

Also putting neosporine on the cuts/cracks will help too.

(I"ve been told that vaseline is not a moisturizer - it only acts as a barrier to protect the skin)

I use Eucerin, it has lanolin, not petroleum jelly. Put some on at night with some cotton gloves, and apply throughout the day.
A good time to apply lotion is after a bath or shower, it seals in the mosture from the bath.
Meanwhile, use a mild soap to wash your hands, use gloves when doing dishes or other cleaning projects. and if the weather is cold where you are, be sure to wear mittens or gloves outside.
Keep your home moist, boil a pot of water on the stove, run the shower with the bathroom dorr closed, then open the door.
and make sure you are adequately hydrating yourself with fluids.

At night lotion then vaseline then cotton glove and socks. By the morning your hands will feel brand new. Also after they start to heal, a parafin dip at the salon will take off dead skin.

The best of lotions will have the higher percent of Rose Glycerin in it. The rest of the lotion is texture, color and scent.

Go to pharmacy (on the shelves) for bottle of Rose Glycerin (cloudy looking and oily). Apply full strength on hands & allow to 'soak' into hands for 3-5 minutes. Paper towel dab off excess. Soap/water wash hands. If hands very bad, may wish to do this daily for 2-3 days until hands start healing.

Put good squirt of baby oil in bath water and soak once a month. Roll around so entire body soaked. Use washcloth to add mixture to the face. Pat dry. Rinse tub ring with dish liquid and hot water. Shampoo as normal if you decided to soak scalp. This will prevent the need for the Rose Glycerin .
