Is this bad nerves?!

Question: Okay, whenever I speak infront of the class, about halfway through my presentation, my hands get shaking and so does my voice. It seems to get choked up. And not only that, I have a dendency to bite my nails, and I am a major clutz. Is this a sign os bad nerves, and if so how can I cure it. If not, can you tell me what it is?? Thanks

Does sound like bad nerves. Public speaking isn't easy for most people. There's plenty of remedies you can buy from herbal or vitamin shops. There's one called CALM. They're drops which you put on your tongue just before an exam (or public speaking) and they do work. Whether it's psychological or not I don't know. But it helped me through a lot of things.

Good luck!

Sounds like anxiety disorder or panic attack to me.
you may say you didn't feel anxious but you can be afraid and not know it (really)
some doctors prescribe inderal (propanonol) for that which you can take before presentations (but ask your doctor. this is not a medical advise by any means)
as for nail bitung this also could be a sign of anxiety....
SSRI antidepressants are sometimes prescribed for anxiety disorder (this time you will have to take them every day and they will (or will not) work after several weeks)
psychotherapy, couching, yoga, relaxation techniques and meditaion may work too, but they didnt help me.

Yes it is bad nerves. I have them too, what weird about my nerves is that I am a performer (I dance, sing, act, do tons of shows and LOVE it) and yet in front of class, I get a rapid heart beat, get sweaty and start feeling shaken up and it is perfectly normal!

To make you feel better Johnny Debt (sp?) has this problem too! He performs well, but has trouble with speaking a speech in front a crowd. (Just watch his past winnings at award shows, he doesn't say much cause he has bad nerves with that kind of thing)

the only way to cure it is to go through the nervousness. im currently at highschool listening to all the loud mouth girls shoultin stuff out and making themselves the centre of dozens of people's attention and they do not become nervous at all. part of that is because many are attention seeking in the first place, but to a greater extent they are used to such a responce. i have become a lot more accostomed to nerves when speaking publically since my english report where i had to stand up in front of 30 people, so technically the more you become that centre of attention the less worried you will be.
my friend is prone to panic attacks, so there s no way around it other than to avoid speaking publically or to take a medication. You can always take a couple of 'Kalmes' if the stress gets too much for you (its a drink supplement designed to 'calm').

I'd rather be like you and get a little nervous than attention seek, but as you grow up you will have to get used to the fact you may have to give presentations in the office and you will get so much better

(good luck on the nervouseness when talking publically)

love Amelia x
