Answers: my friend is allergic to shrimp. what cause the Allergic reaction after she eats it?

a histamine reaction. get CPR certified and educate yourself on how to recognize an allergic reaction.

look it up :) because I don't know

It's an over stimulation of her immune system to the iodine in the shellfish. She should probably be allergic to betadine and/or iodine as well. Her body is releasing histamine because her body does not like the iodine in the shrimp and is trying to protect her from it, but her body is over reacting and releasing too much histamine. That's why benadryl is used in allergic reactions,"the histamine blocker!" I have to take a benadryl before I eat chicken... yea, I'm allergic to chicken. Sound stupid, but it happens. An allergy bracelet would not be a bad idea. If something were to happen to her and Paramedic needed to start an I.V. (we use iodine to clean the site prior to starting an I.V.) this could turn out to be a very bad thing, especially if she is unconscious.

My brother grew an allergy to shrimp...his eyes swell up, he gets a fat lip and sometimes his throat may start to close...it can get pretty bad. So tell your friend to be very careful and she should carry an epi pen w/her, just in case.
