Hi. My brother has autism. =o[?!

Question: He's 11. Its really hard for me when were out in public. He screams sometimes.......anyway. Do any of you think the imunizations that they get when their babies for polio..and different diseases cause autism?

Hi There.

I have a daughter who is currently being evaluated for autism but due to her age (17 months), they are being cautious about giving her the label. I have done tons of research and I think there are tons of variables involved and many different causes. But here's my take.

We are seeing a doctor who believes there are some children who are born with more sensitive systems, (like my daughter - she was born healthy, but had bouts of colic, cradle cap, acid reflux and eczema - all signs of allergic reactions). He believes their immune systems are compromised and aren't able to fight off viruses that a typical body should be able to handle.

The thought is my daughter's immune system was busy fighting the allergic reactions, then she got the vaccinations (with bad reactions), and somewhere along the way she got some pretty serious viruses (she tested positive for CMV and HHV-6 - herpes virus and we have no idea where she got these) and her poor little body couldn't handle it. As she grew older she continued to get her vaccinations and she was hitting her milestones, but started to hit them on the later side and now she is behind. Without knowing it, we were probably putting more stress on her body.

There wasn't an exact day that I my daughter became autistic, but I can tell you there was a noticeable difference inbetween her MMR and especially after her flu shot. The little baby that loved her cousin could no longer stand the sight of her older cousin and would start crying every time she was greeted by her. Do I think the vaccines are to blame? No. Do I think they are a trigger? Absolutely.

We have put her on the gluten free/casein free diet and started a regimen of antivirals and antifungal for my daughter. She has been on the antiviral for a month and the antifungal for 4 days - she is now starting to make eye contact, is much more sociable and is affectionate - she approached me and gave me a kiss tonight! She isn't talking and isn't walking yet (although is close), but I have so much hope for her. I don't know if this will work for others, but it has worked for us and it will hopefully give you and your family hope if they haven't taken this approach yet.

As for your brother, I feel like when I have a good day and stop worrying about the milestones, talking, and what other people think, she has a great day. Just love him unconditionally and try joining him in the silly, strange behavior. I have noticed when I start joining my daughter and imitate her, she tends to notice and will sometimes laugh. I think it shows her I truly accepting her for who she is.

I wish you and your family all the best and sorry for the long winded response.

no. the causes of autism are currently unknown.

I don't think so. However, it's hard to tell, there's been lots of research but no one has came up with a concrete reason why there is Autism. My personal hunch is that it's neurological.

I have a son with autism. I also have a friend with autism and she has never had any immunisations. I understand that it is hard for you - my other children have had many embarrassing moments with their brother. Hang in there. Accept him for him. The general public don't matter!
