I'm having bizarre attacks. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?!

Question: I'm having these crazy attacks that come on suddenly while awake and asleep. I suddenly become very weak and disoriented. My face, arms, legs become numb and tingly. My blood pressure goes up to 180/100 and my heart races very fast and hard. I get nauseous and then suddenly have to pee several times. Then my bowels will become very loose. And l'll go several times in a roll. I have a very difficult time breathing and within 10-15 of this attack I'm unable to walk due to total muscle weakness. All my muscles become ridged and I can barely talk because the muscles are too weak and tight in my throat. I have surges of severe heat going through my veins and then alternating uncontrollable chills. I take 50 mg of benedryl and within 15 minutes everything reverses back to normal. It scares the crap out of me. I'm seeing a nuero tomorrow and have no ideal what to expect! This has happened about 8 times in the past month. It's insane! I'm otherwise healthy besides these crashes! Any ideas?

This sounds like something neurological. You may have a blockage or growth somewhere that's affecting your nervous system. This can develop into a very serious condition. It could also be heart related. However, the muscle weakness and rigidity you describe definitely sounds neurological. The only way to tell is to go see a doctor right away, and I'm glad you're taking that step. I don't see this as something that will go away on its own without treatment. Good luck.

doctor now, it could be soemthign wrong internally.....

Go to your doctor right now!!!

It sounds alot like you're nearing cardiac arrest (heart attack). Go get it check out at a hospital. My mom had something along the lines of that but it was because she accidentally overdosed on the antibiotics the doctor gave her...At least, I think they were antibiotics.

I'm thinking petit mal seizures, but I'm not a doctor. If it is, medication will help, and phenobarb isn't too expensive.

They might be TIAs or Trans Ischemic Attacks, basically mini strokes. Good Luck with the doctor tomorrow.

I have absolutely no idea what is going on with you. But it really does sound serious. I'm glad to hear you are going to a doc tomorrow. I hope everything goes ok. I'm very curious as to what is causing this. Would you let me know what you find out???

good choice by seeing your doc. my mother had similar attacks before she suffered two strokes. the worst part was is that she had her strokes while she was in the hospital. sorry if it sounds like i am trying to scare you but this may not even be the case for you. but keep try keeping track of anything in particular that might have set these attacks off. try to record the times the attacks happen and anything else significant. hope everything is alright.

Anxiety/panic attack is my guess. Mine wake me while in a dead sleep as well. The benedryl is a depressant type that will calm you down and make you sleepy. Like you and the benedryl, I use to get up and drink a beer (not advisable). Even when I had not one thing to be anxious about, they happened.

I have tried several different serotonin regulating medications and nothing seemed to help. I now simply try to talk myself out of them when I feel it coming on.

It sucks, but for me its better than taking med's.

kind of sounds like symptoms of a stroke.... please call 911 next time that happens or go to the nearest emergency facility!!!!!!

visit your doctor for advice.

To me, it sounds like an allergic reaction called angioedema. In your case, the swelling might not not be obvious to you, but your throat is closing and the benadryl is helping to overcome that. I have delayed pressure hives which cause swelling under the skin and causes numbness, chills, hot and cold feelings, a dumping syndrome and difficulting walking to swelling of the legs and feet. I also get angioedema. At first I didn't know what was going on and I went to a neurologist too. They even sent me to a movement disorder clinic with old people because I was walking so funnny one day. Idiots, lol It's good to go to get any muscle weakness checked out by a neuro just to be safe.
