My doctor told me today I am hypoglycemic. Can this lead to/cause diabetes?!

Question: The jury is still out about if reactive hypoglycemia leads to diabetes. The old thinking was that hypo would cause your pancreas to burn out, and it would produce less insulin later in life, causing diabetes. New thinking is that that is not true.
It is obesity and poor diet that lead to diabetes, correct these two, and you have a better chance at not having diabetes. So until medical science makes up its mind, mind your diet and weight. Genetics may have something to do with diabetes, too.
And manage the hypo like the doctor tells you to, 6 small meals a day, with the protein and carbs spread evenly between them is what is recommended.

No..it is low blood sugar...diabetes is the opposite..high blood sugar

Hypoglycemia is low blood sugar, diabetes is the opposite.

diabetes means you have high blood sugar, hypoglycemia means you have low blood sugars. so no it does not

In my case, hypoglycemia DID lead to type 1 diabetes. I had been hypo for approximately 3 years before I was dx with diabetes. I have spoken with others who have had the same thing happen to them. Now I would not take care of myself in those years and many times would skip meals. I just wasn't hungry. So be sure not to do like I did.

Don't listen to the crap. Yes, yes yes. When you are hypoglycemia you can become diabetic. It happened to me, my father, my cousin. My kids are hypoglycemic and the doctor has told them to keep close track of their blood sugar because their bodies can do a flip flop on them and become diabetic. Not that hypoglycemia can "become" diabetes, but your body can go from one to the other. My doctor had always warned me also.
