Question abotu roaccutane?!

Question: I got few questions for people that used roaccutane(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isotretinoi...

Is it safe to start at age of 17?

Let's say everything for me cleans up after few months. Do I stop or continue? After how long do I stop?

Anyone that tried roaccutane for extended period of time and it didn't help? So far I only heard success stories.

Any notable side effects except dry skin/hair and pain/aches?

Yes 17 is considered late teens so its safe. People normally start around this age because the possibility of remission is higher and acne is less likely to return as the effects may last long enough till you finally outgrow it.

You cannot take it more then few months depending on your dose. The longest anyone should be on roaccutane should not be more then 10 months. If your dose is high, probably you need to take it for only 5-6 months. You can actually calculate how many months you need to take it using your cumalative dose to divide the dosage you take everyday.

There are people who have to take second or third courses depending on their acne type. The milder your acne, the more likely you will be cured. If your acne type is severe, the possibility of it coming back is higher and you need to go on another course. However bear in mind that after every course, acne comes back milder.

Besides the normal dry skin/ hair, pains and aches. Intitial breakout of acne is also possible. Some people have complaint that during the first few weeks on the drug, they experience horrible breakouts. This is because, roaccutane exfoliates the skin at accelerated rate, pushing all dormant acne underneath your skin to the surface, its a way of clearing pores. These dormant acne normally come out slowly in months but with roaccutane, you could be having months worth of acne in 3-4 weeks.

Other common side effects include fatigue, lack of concentration and redness as in like blushing.
