Just stopped drinking, how do i get my liver back to full health?!

Question: Everybody is right in that the liver DOES regenerate but how quickly and how completely depends on a number of things like the extent of the damage now. Michael W. is also right that we can get by with only 25% of the 'liver function' we started with.

However, it IS possible to help that process along. Milk Thistle, either pills or tincture, will improve liver function and reduce the liver symptoms. Also S-ame (S-adenosyl methionine) will give energy and reduce tiredness associated with liver damage. There's lot's of good advice out there, look around.

As long as you are not cirrhotic, your liver should get back to normal eventually. However, remember that 'normal' for your age might only be 60% of original liver function. No matter how good you are, you ain't gonna feel like 18 again!

Keep stopped.

Livers recover themselves unless cirrhosis has set in...please speak to a doctor about that.
Congratulations on your sobriety!

Don't drink again if you needed to, and drink plenty of water..

Well done on stopping!

Try eating a healthy diet, include loads of green veg to increase your iron intake, and get plenty exercise. Depending on the amount of liver damage you have sustained, a healthy lifestyle should be all you need really.

Good luck fella, wish i could join you...

Nature will take care of it

speak to your doctor he will give u the best advice
welldone

Multivitamins, eat right and exercise. Congratulations.

time will heal your liver. congrats on your sobriety.over 7 yrs sober here good luck to you

I dont know the answer to your question but I wanted to congratulate you on not drinking. I have done the same and love my life now more than ever.

lots of water, everyday

the liver repairs it self. self healing. providing it not damage bey-on repair.

It depends how much you have been drinking. Beer is not as bad as spirits as it about 90% water and the liver can easily cope with that. Spirits are a fifferent matter as the water content is very small. My old Mom died from over drinking spirits and had cirrhosis of the liver. The part of the liver affected never repaires itself. That does not mean that it will happen to you. Stopping drinking spirits will leave the rest of your liver to carry on and do its job. I am not sure, but I think that you can live a normal life with only 25% of your liver working. Good luck and a long life. Just for the record, I am 75 years old been drinking beer all my life (no spirits but a little red wine) and my liver is fine .
