What causes iron deficiency anaemia? And is it serious?!

Question: A deficiency of iron in your diet. Yes it is serious. You depend upon red blood cells to collect oxygen from your lungs and transport that oxygen throughout your body via the bloodstream. If you are suffering from anemia this affects the efficiency of oxygen distribution throughout your body, which affects the effecetive functioning of your organs, including, most notably, the brain.

Please take whatever steps your physician prescribes to correct your anemia. You owe it to yourself!

Take care.

I think you've answered your own question.

not getting enough Iron - you answered your own question. No it is not too serious to start with, although you will feel very tired most of the time. prolonged iron deficiency can cause problems though. Take an iron supplement with vitamin c (helps the body absorb iron) every day and you will feel better in a week or so. Or see your doctor if symptoms persist.

its usually caused by loss of blood, in a women for example after childbirth or if she has heavy periods of a diet lacking in iron. if there is persistant anaemia without any obvious cause then it needs to be investigated.
