Allergy - Citrus Fruits?!

Question: Does anyone here have any experience of allergies with citrus fruits? What do you know about it? What kind of symptons do/did you have with it?

I've got eczema which has flared up recently and it seems to be worst when I eat oranges? How can I check if I have an allergy to citrus fruits?

10 points for helpful answers!

Thank you!

Stop eating vitrus fruit. Wait for the symptoms to subside, then try eating the fruit again.
If the symptoms come back then you have a fair idea that you can't hack them.
When I eat fruit with a high acid content (citrus, pineapple, melon) the inside of my mouth swells and I get blisters - guess I can't hack them either.
Your doc could arrange for you to have tests.

My sister in law is allergic to oranges
she cant even have orange sweets like smaarties m&ms etc
it has also passed down to her children and one of her daughters is allergic to all fruits !!

Go get an allergy test done. They will be able to tell you exactly what you're allergic to.

Allegy to citric acid is COMMON. Eczema is a common manifestation of that allergy. If you read ingredients, you will find that a LOT of products have citric acid, including many things you eat and drink, and even soaps and shampoos.

I recommend that you get off citric acid...if your eczema improves, then you can try going back on citric ... if your eczema flares, then you have just proven your allergy. commercial testing for citric acid allergy is notoriously inaccurate.

good luck

my mum has recently discovered that she has an intolerance to citrus and wheat. since changing her diet she rarely gets migrains (she used to get them really bad) and her hay fever is nowhere near as bad. my mum asked about it in a health food shop and they told her where she could get tested.

good luck

edit - you may not realise but due to this intolerance she cant have tomatoes either.

plus hers is an intolerance. she suffers a lot with it but it didn't show up on any allergy tests the Doctor did, she went private
