Actually, human herpesvirus 11 DOES exist! I had to sift through a bit of literature to find any research on it, though. It's not a common strain (however, equine herpesvirus 11 is a bigger concern, among veterinarians anyway), and of little clinical significance.

Herpes simplex 1 and 2 are the ones that cause oral and genital ulcers. However, oral herpes should NOT be confused with canker sores. Oral herpes usually presents as blisters on the lips, around the eyes or up the nose (mucous membranes above the neck). These blisters are fluid filled at first, break open and then crust over.

So, do YOU have HSV-1? Only a blood test can tell for sure (no clinician would test you for HHV-11, though -- those tests are only for research studies). About 60% of the population has HSV-1 (according to CDC data), and most acquire it nonsexually as infants or toddlers. Slobbering on another kid, sticking things in your mouth, or getting wet kisses from Auntie can give you HSV-1. Many people who have HSV-1 *never* have symptoms. And because so many people get HSV-1 as kids, it's pretty hard to pin your partner as the person who gave it to you.

I have only heard of Type 1 and Type 2.

i have only heard of simplex 1 and 2. i suppose it could possable because simplex 1 causes oral sores (oral herpes). they are contagious and can be passed onto another parnter easily. things like kissing and sharing drinks or ciggaretts could pass them on. he may have contracted herpes symplex 1.

I think you need to see another Dr.! There's no such thing as type 11 herpes.
