You did the right thing for taking two. Two 500mg = 1G.
1 gram of Zithromax should cure your problem but be aware that sometimes Chlamydia and Gonorrhea coexists so be sure to follow up with your doctor and be careful out there.

I've known of people (males and females) carrying these infections for months without being treated because they thought their problem was too mild to go in or they were too embarrassed.

I'm sure it will. Those pills probably killed everything.

There is no problem. Maybe the doctor ordered 1000mg. But the pharmacy only had 500 mg on hand. 2 pills would equal 1000.

it should still work be cause the z pack is a seven day treatment that requires the 1st day you take the 2 pills to give you a dose of 500 and then one pill the other days until you complete your treatment

It will work but your doctor probably told you that for a reason. He should have told you the reason so your right for doing what the bottle says.

Maybe I would take the time to do the research and help you out if you had a history of choosing best answer I would have also given you a very clear and thoughtful answer. However, since you don't take the time to choose best answer or no best answer and instead decide to leave your questions up to the voters you don't deserve my time, or anyone else's for that matter. Thanks for the easy 2 points!
