Will I need to get my tonsils taken out?!

Question: So about every two months I get strep throat or some sort of throat infection. I currently have it right now, and its the worst its ever been. I haven't been to the doctor yet to ask them or not, but do you think they will consider having me get my tonsils taken out? And if so, what is the chance of getting thrush of the throat afterwards?

Sounds like you are in frequent contact with a strep carrier - a person/animal who can spread strep without having signs of it themselves. I know of one family who repeatedly (except for one member) had strep - they finally narrowed it down to the family dog being the carrier. Could be one of your friends or a boyfriend. You can still have strep throat after the tonsils are gone; tonsillectomies are done mainly if the tonsils are infected, and it's generally not strep. Thrush is a yeast infection, often caused by taking antibiotics for some infectious condition. I had my tonsils out at age 38 after 5 years of being constantly ill; it was the best thing I could have done for myself.

My doctor says I have to have 5 cases of tonsillitis in one year before I need them taken out. I usually get 4 cases hehe. You can't leave these things to take over - you need to see a doctor. Maybe if they give you a strong enough dose of antibiotics it won't come back. Or if you need them out, they will take them out and you will feel better.

EDIT: Wow, harsh when I was only trying to help

yep they have got to go but its not so bad because you get to eat jello and popsicels and you will be asleep through the removal

Tonsilectomies are rarely done these days. You didn't say of your tonsils were infected all this time. If they were, they may consider removing them but only after the infection is cleared up. Chances are, it's not your tonsils.
Thrush is a yeast infection and completely unrelated to this - where did you hear that?

They used to do this alot more 20 years ago. It is not usually done these days.
