Carbon monoxide poisoning?!

Question: Ok..my not so bright husband just came in from the garage where he had his quad running for about a half an hour with the door closed. He said he didn't feel so well..was a bit dizzy. Now he says hes fine and im silly for worrying. How long does it take to be poisoned? He won't go to the hospital but should I absolutely insist? How serious may this be? I know all about precautions and what not but does anyone know anything for sure?

Oh, geez. It probably would be best if he had gone to the ER right away, but I see it's two hours since you posted. Since one of the main factors in CO (carbon monoxide) clearance is time, it could be somewhat resolved by now. Or still very high. You have to make your own decision. I'm guessing he won't go anyhow.

Mainly posting for future reference - victims of CO poisoning have been known to just feel a little odd, then pass out with very minor exertion like standing to walk to a toolbox, or pass out with no warning. Meanwhile whatever they were working on keeps running, pouring out more CO.

Read him the riot act. Twice. Loudly. And make sure you know where he keeps his life insurance papers :-\

I think as long as he's breathing fresh air and the dizziness has passed, that he'll be OK. He definitely shouldn't be running the quad bike in the garage with the door closed.

I've got no medical expertise, whatsoever, so you might want to look up carbon monoxide poisoning on a medical site, like http://www.webmd.com
