Answers: I just got the results of my A1C It was 9.5...how bad is that?

I always get a bunch of thumbs downs when I answer because I tell it like it is. But, for some reason, I continue to answer honestly anyway.

An HbA1C of 9.5 corresponds to an average glucose level for the past two to three months of 261 mg/dl (14.6 mmol/l). That's wayyyyy too high. You're at a very high risk for complications. Despite what the others are saying, you should be shooting for under 6. Last year, at this time, I was at 5.8. This year, I'm at 4.8 and completely off the Metformin. If you're a type two, you should at least be under 7, or better yet, under 6.

It's a little high. Are you watching your diet like you should be?

I work in a lab and i've seen them over 15 before so, 9.5 is high though. You blood sugar would be ~250 with that, so you should watch your diet better.

It's not good... it means over the past 2-3 months you have not been controlling your blood sugar levels well.

You want it at below 7%.

Make sure you are counting carbs/etc correctly, administering medications as prescribed, eating the correct diet, checking your blood sugar as prescribed.

If you dont get this below 7%, it's associated with all different comorbidities such as diabetic neuropathy, nephropathy, etc.

it is high the new numbers from the American Diabetic Assoc
saids the numbers should be below 7 . Your doctor needs to talk to you about possibly changing your meds and diet- please talk to him/her/

The American Diabetes association recommends 7.0 and below. The Endocrinologist's Assciation recommends 6.5 and below.

9.5 presents a problem because you have a 70% higher chance of complications than if you are within the normal.

The best option if you are on insulin is to use a pump. They are covered by most insurances and helped me lower my A1C from 13 to 6.9. Talk with your MD about it or go to one of the pump companies websites listed below. It changed my life...

The range is 6 to 10. Ideally, drs. want you to be at a 7. My daughter was a 9.5 at her last check up and the dr. said that if she hasn't improved at her next one in March she will hospitalize her.
So you tell me don't you think 9.5 is bad?
Really they say anything that is 10+ means you not controling your levels very well.
My other daughter was a 6.6 which is awesome. I can't figure out why the other one had such a high level. Seems to me, if I wasn't doing a good job, they'd both be bad wouldn't they? The only thing I can figure is she's sneaking extra juice and not telling me.
But anyway, sounds like you should see a dietician so they can help you with foods that will help maintain better levels and foods to avoid. Oatmeal is a good food for that and there are lots more they can help you with.
Good luck!

A LITTLE? TRY A LOT DID UR DR START US ON MEDICATION AND DIET THAT VERY HIGH AN ABNORMAL YOU SHOULD START A STRICK BUT YUMMY DIET TO LOWER IT AND IF DR GAVE U MED TAKE THEM AS DIRECTED ARE YOU CHEKING YOUR BLOOK SUGAR 2? GO TO

http://www.glucomenu.com THEY WILL GIVE A WEEK BY WEEK FOOD LIST GROSERY LIST ITS VERY EASY TO STICK TO IT BC U STILL EAT A LIL OF EVERYTHING

Well, it's certainly not GOOD. I've been has high as 12.5 and as low as 5.5. Below 7 for a diabetic is ideal. The higher the number, the higher your risk for complications. You really need to adjust your diet, exercise or meds, or all 3.
