What is this lump under my skin after I take my insulin shot?!

Question: I took my shot and when I pulled the needle out a few drops of blood came out (this doesn't always happen, but does sometimes), anyway then a very large lump (size of a chick pea or larger) is under my skin. Also the area (size of a chick pea) is bruised looking. It happened all of a sudden. It hurts a little, but I'm so scared. What's up?

you most likely nicked a vein and have a small ammount of sequestered blood , the Diabetic Nurse should have gone over the injection needle position with you . you probably had the needle at too straight an angel and went too deep .it should go away in a day or so .if not go to the dr and get it checked.

it means its SWOLLEN happens when no relaxants are available (anestisia i think) dont worry its like getting punched, itll heal by itself.

This has happened to me twice. The bump I got was not as large but it was explained to me to be an insulin pocket. I usually just aviod that site for awhile and stick somewhere else. What you have to worry about is how much insulin you lost in the blood that came out. Usually if I bleed alot and I know I lost insulin I may just give myself 1-2 extra units (if it was humalog, if lantus or something else that's a different story) and just watch myself and my levels. The 2 bruises I got went away after a few weeks.
