I pierced my own ears too...the hard part is the ice to the ear part....freezing the cartlidge...
Put an ice cube on the front of the part you want to pierce and on the back of the part you want to pierce....
You have to make sure you have strong hands to do this....use a big sewing needle...and put some thread through the needle...and knot if off....
Push the needle through your cartlidge...and the thread..tie knots in both ends of the thread...put vaseline on your ear after wiping it off with alcohol...pull the string back and forth frequently through your ear making sure you don't pull the string out...
In about 3 or 4 weeks...you should be able to take the thread out and start wearing earrings....
Make sure that you wear good earrings for the first couple of weeks...and turn them often...
If you want, you can also use an antibiotic ointment instead of the vaseline....right after the piercing...
Good luck and I hope it all works out

To avoid it, get it done by a professional who knows what they are doing.

If you can't do it by a professional and your mom won't even let you do it, then don't do it. I'm sorry those aren't the words you want to hear, but if you do it yourself, you could risk it collapsing plus infection.

If you can't get it done professionally, then don't get it done. Infections and such can be pretty dangerous and cartilage piercings are tricky to take care of and take at least a year to fully heal.
