I get the feeling you had a recent diagnosis of a lump and are trying to self-diagnose a little - I say this because I did the same thing. (I even tried to find scan pictures than most closely matched mine so I would know what I had)

A nodule can be anywhere and anything, so to speak. Most thyroid nodules are benign (not cancer).

While knowing if they are hyperechoic helps the docs sort it out, it is only part of diagnosing it.

If you have a thyroidectomy, you can take synthetic hormone replacement, no worries there. Just remember to take it faithfully. You can die of old age instead.

If you have follicular cancer, it is highly treatable. Don't panic! Very high success rate! And even the treatment is generally easier on you than most other cancers.

If you are currently dealing with a lot of unknowns, it really helps to join a user group for support. There are a couple out there I just joined. Google Thryvors and Thyca and check out their websites, maybe join the user groups. One is Canadian, the other American, but both welcome anyone in need.

About me...I am 4 days post surgery. Just had half my thyroid out because of a nodule. I had the ultrasound and a biopsy and they still couldn't determine exactly what I had. Have to wait another week for surgical biopsy results. It is either a follicular adenoma or cancer. I've read up fully on both and understand that either way, I WILL be fine.

Please try to get in contact with one of the support groups. The users have such a range of experience and know much more than I do. They have helped so much with answering every strange little question I had.
