HELP sHOULD I GO 2 THE ER?!


Question: I had a connector connected to my VA Shunt and now I have swollen in my chest I don't know if this can be from the shunt or if my shunt has a hole and is leaking? SHOULD I GO 2 THE ER?

You do need to see your doctor. I don't think you need to go to the E.R.

Are you having any other symptoms, like headache? If the swelling is as a result of your AV shunt it is still working, but it is just not draining into your abdomen.

The only way to fix this is to replace the shunt. I would call your neurologist office first thing in the morning.

edit: I think you need to have a CT or MRI. A shunt series doesn't asses the function of the shunt only if it looks structurally intact. CT or MRI can asses if you are having excessive pressures. Depending on where you live, if you are close to a hospital that can actually deal with this I think I would go. I'm sure you realize a small community hospital is not equipped to deal with placing or replacing an
AV shunt.
