My 14 month old is running a fever of 103.0 but he is still a happy baby..what d!

Question: it goes down from time to time to 101.0 to 102.0 but hes playing still and he's tossing his toys around and hasn't really lost an appetite. He is just very feverish and flushed. He threw up a couple times yesterday but hasn't thrown up tonight, he has mucus in his throat and stuffy nose...Should I still take him to the E.R even though he is acting fine despite the fever? PLease any suggestions, thank you

.Okay don't panic 103.0 is okay especially is he acts fine now if your child was running fever and acted sick then that's when you take him in. Alot of stuff is going around right know my two little ones just got over fever with vomiting and diaherra. 3 and 20 months fevers went to about 105. You do know that fevers are good they help to fight the infection that he is getting so I try to only medicate my children at night to make them comfortable unless they are very irratable and cranky during the day. Also your body is the hottest at night as high as 100 degrees. Body temps over 108 is when it will cause brain damage. Infections do not cause body temps over 106 range. So fever is not bad it is the clue to finding the problem. Just remember your body temp is lower in the morning and higher at night if your child is acting fine then treat him with the fever and unless he starts to have problems breathing or a temp that will not go down the take him in. Also remember when you have a temp say of 104 the lowest it will go down is about 101 the fever will not fully go away unless the fever was not that high to begin with. If you take him to ER they will probably perform alot of tests that aren't necessary trust me I know ffrom experience! He will be okay put a humdifier in hisx room to help him breathe and don't worry to much about the fever it's helping to fight the infection that he has. Good luck to you both. Wow I just read some other answers and am very surprised to see everybody saying to rush him to emergency. I have 3 kids 12, 3 and 20 months. They have all had their bouts with fever not saying I've never taken them to the Er cause I have way to much and well you learn from experience. One thing I did forget to mention is make sure he is drinking plenty of fluids for dehydration and watch for tugging at the ears which could mean he has an ear infection and well that would be the source for the fever. Also go by your gut instint if you feel he's not right then it doesn't matter what anybody tells you you have the mother instinct take him in. All will be well stomach virus is going around again good luck!

if he is feverish, he needs to see a doctor...

It is important to take the child for medical attention. Temps over 102 are dangerous and can mean severe problems. usually a temp of 104 the child goes to critical so get it looked at asap.

take him to the doctor for sure.My son was very active even though he had a fever too.
It will help if your child wears as little clothing as possible to help get rid of the fever.
Give him fluids also !

Take him to the ER. A fever is a sign of an infection which could hurt your baby :(, and we dont want that. Even though he is not lethargic doesn't mean that there isnt something wrong.

First of all there are a few things that YOU can do at home for this fever....
Go to the store and buy some children's motrin...it will bring the fever down in 20 minutes...while you are there, buy some pedialyte too...
The reason he is throwing up is because of the fever...whatever is going into his stomach while he has a temp is only getting curdled and sour due to the high temp....
You should definetely place a call to your pediatrician...he probably needs an antibiotic and the doc can call this in to your pharmacy. All that you will have to do is go and pick it up....
It sounds like he' s got a head cold, but it could easily go into his chest and he could get pneumonia....and you don't want that...
Pedialyte makes popsicles and freeze pops too...this wouldn't be a bad idea to buy some of these...something cold to nibble on while he's got a fever would be good for him...
Call the doc...and ask him for an antibiotic to be called in...tell him or her the temperature won't stay down...no matter what you do...this is a sure sign the baby needs an antibiotic...
Hope your son feels better soon.

Take him to E.R. fever's can be tricky things. The baby will run a higher fever at night more so than any other time. It can be dangerous to allow the baby to continue to run high fever's.If you don't want to take him to E.R. then get a bottle of Tylenol and give to the child as directed on the bottle only. But the runny nose and the upset tummy I recommend the E.R.

You should take a child (that is between the age of 3 months to 3 years) to a doctor when he/she has a fever that:

is 104 or higher
is 102 to 104 and does not come down after 12 hours
is 100 to 102 and does not come down after 24 to 48 hours

These guidlines are regardless of the child's activity level, due to the age of the child.

Yes! Take him to the ER immediately. Babies can't communicate what's really going on with them. When I was a toddler, my brother and I both ended up in the ER, because we were dehydrated, but my parents didn't know anything was wrong with us because of the way we were acting. You NEED to take him to the doctor. If he's throwing up, he can become dehydrated.
