Are bruises a health concern?!

Question: I'm a real klutz sometimes. I was visiting my friend and I tripped over the ottoman in the dark 3 days ago. I slid face first over the top of the ottoman and landed on my shoulder (upper arm area.) It still hurts. Now I have huge bruises on my knee, thighs as well as on my arm. They are red and blue, and look awful. My husband thinks I'll be fine but I'm not so sure. Should I be concerned about the bruises? Can bruising lead to dangerous blood clots?

A bruise, also called a contusion or ecchymosis, is an injury to biological tissue in which the capillaries are damaged, allowing blood to seep into the surrounding tissue. It is usually caused by blunt impact. Bruises often induce pain but are not normally dangerous. Sometimes bruises can be serious, leading to other more life threatening forms of hematoma, or can be associated with serious injuries, including fractures and internal bleeding. Minor bruises may be easily recognized, in people with light skin color, by their characteristic blue or purple appearance (idiomatically described as "black and blue") in the days following the injury.

a bruise is your bodys way of stopping you bleeding internally but its natural - its not nice but it will go away - a bruise is better when is out use arnia cream to help it go away

I've had lots of bruises in my life. When you get a bruise, your blood gets to the surface of your skin, just under it. I don't really think you can get blood clots. LOL

a bruise is a blood clot under your skin, and in rare cases can cause problems. in wing chun training, we learned that rubbing them vigorously with a moderate amount of force will break them up and make them go away. the thing is, rub only away from your heart, repeatedly, or you can give yourself a stroke. the motion is kind of like petting a cat or dog really fast.

When I got into my car accident the doctors did not even seem to pay attention to the bruises, they were not even concerned with them when I made an issue about them. Leading me to believe they are not very dangerous. I had a guard rail come through the door of my car resulting in an actual pocket of blood that the doctors just said would go away. Turns out the entire muscle on the back of my leg was torn apart, the swelling didn't go down for over 3 months. They kept saying it was a natural healing process when they thought it was only a bruise even with a large pocket of blood. So if you have standard bruises from a fall, i'm sure you have nothing to worry about.

No they cannot. The only thing that I know of that would lead to that is eating very unhealthy and thats how you get blood clots also if you dont want bruises to be as bad start taking some iron pills your body may need more iron thats what my mom does.

no just put ice on it.. dont worry bro.. jajajaaja its all good

it will heal over time
