It's very possible that you have contracted the Flu. You are exhibiting the first symptoms - Sore throat/Swollen Glands without a fever. You can gargle with warm salt water every other hour today and begin taking in large amounts of fluids (water, juices, tea, broths) if by late evening and into tomorrow you develop a fever over 100 you must call your doctor and explain the symptoms - he/she can prescribe an antiviral med such as Tamiflu to help you get over it faster. Make sure to watch your tonsils, too - never rule out Tonsilitis.
If you don't develop a highfever and terrible aches you probably just have a bad cold - which you would want to keep hydrated, get plenty of rest and take over the counter cold relief meds.
One note - if you do develop the fever tonight or tomorrow and it is combined with a stiff neck (severe) and/or lethargic movements or confusion get to an ER fast - this could be the symptoms of something much more serious.

Well, you can gargle with salt water, but if you insist on treating it without medical help, then don't take anything like Tylenol or Ibuprofen, since that might lower your temperature and stop your body from killing the microbes. You DO understand that if it is strep throat it can leave you with heart damage? Best go to a doctor anyway.
