On the 3rd day of being on antibiotics you need to throw away your tooth brush because you are re-infecting yourself every time that you brush your teeth. If you cannot buy a new toothbrush at least put it in the silverware basket of the dishwasher and let it get sterilized. When you are done with the antibiotics replace it or sterilize it one more time to be on the safe side. I bet you that you will not get the infection back again. I will never know why doctors don't tell people this.

Sometimes, you need to get stronger antibiotics. I get strep throat a lot, and sometimes the amoxicillin works, and other times, it takes a stronger antibiotic (like Ceflor/Ceflacor) to make the strep bacteria go away.

Kelly is right! (very interesting)

Here is what webMD has to say............

For the first 24 to 48 hours after you start taking an antibiotic, you are still contagious. You can avoid passing the strep throat infection to others and reinfecting yourself by:

Avoiding sneezing or coughing on others.
Washing your hands often.
Using tissues you can throw away, not handkerchiefs.
Throwing out your toothbrush as soon as you feel sick. Replace it again when you are well. You can also clean your toothbrush well before using it again. Bacteria can collect on the bristles and reinfect you.

First, are you taking the whole course of antibiotics? Some people stop taking them when they feel better, and it never completely goes away. Also, Kelly is totally right about the toothbrush. I went to the dollar store and got a pack of a dozen toothbrushes for a dollar, and I keep them around for when I get sick. Yes, they are cheap, but they are perfect for this situation. Use them for one day, throw them away, use a new one every day till you're cured. If you can't find a cheap pack like that, running it though the dishwasher every night will work, or I have even left mine soaking in a glass of Listerine.
