Home treatment for pneumonia?!

Question: I have walking pneumonia, as diagnosed by my doctor. I'm having a really hard time dealing with the cough. I'm on antibiotics and a codeine cough syrup, but I'm still coughing all the time. I've been on the medicine for three days. I'm looking for tips to: help my throat stop feeling so tickly so I cough less, make my chest and back feel less achey from all the coughing.

When i was working as a nurses aide in an iowa nursing home i saw alot of pneumonia. What amazed me was watching the nurses take rubbing alcohol, rub down the patients back with it and then place a dry towel as hot as you can get it with out burning on the back, covering the patient with lots of blankets. The next morning almost all of their symptoms were gone. The other thing to relieve a sore throat is mixing honey and lemon, warm it a bit and slurp down a big spoonfull. I hope these things help you sweetie, i wish all the best to you and your recovery.

I was told to get alot of rest, stay in bed. Ask your doctor , maybe throat spray and ibuprofen for the aches.

Doctors use antibiotics to treat pneumonia caused by bacteria, the most common cause of the condition. You usually will continue to take antibiotics for 5 to 14 days, although you may take them longer if you have an impaired immune system.

Your doctor will choose your antibiotic based on a number of things, including your age, your symptoms and how severe they are, and whether you need to go to the hospital.

If you have pneumonia, the following measures can help you recover more quickly and decrease your risk of complications:

* Get plenty of rest. Even when you start to feel better, be careful not to overdo it.
* Drink lots of fluids, especially water. Liquids keep you from becoming dehydrated and help loosen mucus in your lungs.
* Take the entire course of any prescribed medications. Stopping medication too soon can cause your pneumonia to come back and contributes to the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
* Keep all of your follow-up appointments. Even though you feel better, your lungs may still be infected. It's important to have your doctor monitor your progress.

take a hot shower and breath in the steam! the steam will loosen up the phlegm in your throat! that will make you less likely to keep coughing! call doctor in the morning and see if you need a different antibiotic! good luck

You poor thing. You could try those cough/ sore throat suckers for kids. I know that sounds silly but I used them and found that they work great for adults, and I always keep them on hand for my kids. I sure hope you get to feeling better. If you do not get some relief soon you should go back to the Doctor just to be on the safe side. Pneumonia is serious stuff!

you need to finish the meds exactly as prescribed and see your doctor when you're done for follow up. call the doctor if you don't feel as if your symptoms have improved.
