Speaking as an alcoholic who hasn't had a drink for over 16 years, there are a couple of very non-scientific question that might indicate if the person is an alcoholic or not. Can that person, on a regular basis, walk away from half of their second drink, and when they drink, do they stop before they get drunk. Alcoholism isn't so much how often you drink, it is how you drink. An alcoholic CAN'T stop drinking once they start.

The person your described may not be a textbook case of an alchoholic, but he or she is darn close. Its a bad road to head down and it may be a matter of time before that person does start to drink during the day and / or start having liver problems. You should talk to this person and start thinking about counseling.

An alcaholic wakes up and needs a drink straight away to
"get going" If your friend drinks in the afternoon, every afternoon - then he/she has a drink problem. They are both different things though. My brother has the latter.

theyre are different stages of addiction to alcohol, drinking every day is not good, and who ever it is needs to be checked out

addiction is defined an the inability to stop despite negative consequences. its alcoholism if it interferes with someones life.

alcholics plan when they get drunk it don't matter when they drink.

I've known a lot of alcoholics that only drink after work, functioning alcoholics. If they cannot go without drinking at all, then they could be considered an alcoholic.

is the person you? if it is not here is what YOU need to do: GO TO ALANON. look in the phone book. if "this person" is you: GO TO AA right away. now.

They could be.Too much alcohol being consumed is bad, just like too much of Anything is bad.Regardless of time.If you can have a few drinks and stop.I think that shows then that you are not an alcoholic.
Hope I helped!

Yes they are a Alcoholic ,Jest not hard core yet.And yes they need help.Good luck.

ABSOLUTELY.
a person can be an alcoholic if they only drink once a week!...
...my best friend is an alcololic, now getting help and she only drinks in the morning.
my ex husband, bad alcoholic, ...great job, college educated....only drinks in the evening, every night.
...I know too many alcoholics for sure...and some only once a week, but they go out and get totally smashed, ...black out, do dumb things...etc...Def . have a drinking problem.
Alcohol comes in many, many forms......and even if the liver test fine,...doesnt mean theres not a problem

Yes, that person could still be an alcoholic. All the self-tests that you see that ask you to answer true or false, then it rates you as to whether you are an alcoholic or not, are very basic and general. There are always exceptions. Yes, this sounds like alcoholism to me.

I have been asking the same question about myself lately. I dont drink in the morning, I have never missed work or driven while drinking, but I drink almost every night between 2 to 5 drinks. It also runs in my family. I think its possible to be what they call a "functioning alchoholic". I guess if you cant stop even for just a few days or even slow down then it probably is a problem and could definately get worse. Keep an eye on it for sure.

Anyone who drinks a lot every evening is an alcoholic, and at risk for developing alcoholic hepatitis or worse, End stage liver disease. http://billybobswildride.blogspot.com/
