Acid Reflux??!
Question: I was diagnosed with Acid Reflux 6 years ago when I was 7, and now I'm 13. I Just have a question, is Acid Reflux Disease always Heredity, because no one in my family has it? Does anyone know why I would get it if it's not?

Well Nicole, I am not a doctor but, from what I have learned about the disease (I have it myself, & I too got it at a young age) is that it is a malfunction of the flap that is in between your stomach & your esophagas. This may or may not have been a hereditary thing. Some people are just born with it. Others develop it over time from bad eating habits & from having too much stress in thier live's.
Being that you are so young. I would have to think it was something that you, unfortunately were just born with. Bum deal!
But, has your doctor prescribed anything for you? Such as Nexium? (Generic Name: Omeprazole) If you are having a real problem with this you should direct questions such as this towards him.
Otherwise you are going to just get a lot of response's from people just like myself ... people who mean well but, are not physicians & therefore not truly qualified to give you advice.
So the best advice I can really give you is to go see him. All I can do is tell you of my own experiance's ... but, they may not neccasarily apply to your particular situation. Good Luck!
i had it too , and no it is not Heredity , my Dr told me i got it from stress, soda , a lot of coffee.
no it's not hereditary...it can be developed over time by not being careful of what you eat...such as a lot of caffeine, foods with a lot of acid(tomatoes for instance) and greasy foods...stress can also trigger it.
