Can I really catch a cold by being in the cold?!

Question: My parents and grandma seem to believe this.

Answers: My parents and grandma seem to believe this.

no you can't. You only catch a cold by coming in contact with a virus.

yep. yes u can

no, it's an old wive's tale. a cold is a viral infection that spreads through contact, not cold weather.

No. A cold is a virus infection, caught from other people. Being cold may make you a little more vulnerable, but the main reason colds are commoner in winter is that people huddle closer together and ventilate rooms less. If fresh air is blowing through the room, viruses are blown away. If doors and windows are shut, they hang around.

no
it's a virus

you can only get a cold by being in the cold if the virus is around (in the air or if someone else has got it). the reason for people mostly catching it when it is cold is because your body is trying to keep itself warm and it takes energy and stuff and your immune system doesnt work so well. also, cold air does increase the virus' survival time. therefore you are more likely to catch the virus when its cold than when it is warm.

No, you need the exposure to the rhinovirus. It's an old wives tale. The winter I had no coat to wear, I had no colds - a record for me at that time! However, you need to dress appropriately for the weather - there's no need to be uncomfortable.

I applaud you for wining the "stupidest question of the day" award.

no its never been proven to be true there needs to be a virus or bactrium there to make you sick

NO!!!hahaha the only way you can catch a cold is if the virus gets into your system and being in the cold can make you more vulnerable to germs which may be able to pass on a cold but you CANNOT get a cold from just being cold

NO!

The "common cold" is misleading since the illness has nothing to do with cold weather. Certain viruses that cause the common cold tend to be more active in the winter and school year, which misleads people into associating this illness with climate or temperature. Colds occur in warm, southern climates as well.

Colds are caused by viral infections requiring contact with a sick person. They are not influenced by cold weather nor being improperly dressed.

That is not true. You must come in contact with the virus and this is more likely to occur in a warm place where the virus has the chance to grow.

no

yes u can if your not wearing the right clothing

You get a cold from other people, not the weather.

No, simply being in the cold does not cause a cold. Cold season happens in winter because more people tend to gather indoors where it is easier to catch and transmit the cold virus.

it is called a cold for a reason and all the people saying so are simply wrong and should look this up before answering
thanks

Did you know that you can not catch a cold at the North Pole because there are no germs. Its too cold.
However, hypothermia can also be called catching a cold.

no, you need to be exposed to the cold virus. which you are more likely to catch when your resistance is low by being in the cold. so yes. lol. take plenty of vitamin c, drink lots of fluids be as healthy as you can. you can get cold but not for too long, don't get really chilled. then get dry and take care of yourself by not getting exhausted or over taxing yourself. then you'll have less colds overall. the greatest way to catch colds is to be around little children!!!!!

a lot of people believe this but it's not true, because you're out in the cold, all that happens is your body heat is escaping and a cold is spread by germs, people coughing on you and than it gets into your mouth & stuff like that

that's what I've heard though

yeah becuase your immune system goes down.

your immune system gets weaker so it is more prone to catching a cold from viruses in the air than normal. So yeah it is a cause.

yea

YEAH!!!!!!!!!
