I had a similar situation with my friend and her baby. I didn't say anything. I just let my actions speak for me. Give your friend a lift to the hospital and any other kind of help they need. They will appreciate you for it. You don't have to say anything more. Your presence and assistance speaks for you.
Levi, remain calm,and do alot of listening. at some point when the time is right, simply say I am there for the family. Along with a handshake or a hug. :)
