Different people have different levels of pain. Some feel pain far more than others do. Some are far more nervous, excitable ad worried than others. Not everyone is alike.

It is possible that the doctor could give your daughter a little something to calm her prior to doing the operation. There is also an anesthetic called VERSED (pronounced "vur-sed") you could ask your doctor about. It is very mild, and could do the trick in getting your daughter through the operation without her panicking or feeling any pain.

Some people have no problem at all with such an operation. Others may be traumatized by it. And there are all feelings in between.

Listen to your daughter. Go with what she is feeling. If she is really panic-stricken over this operation, EVEN IF it seems like no big deal to you or to the folks who have answered, LET THE DOCTOR KNOW and ASK IF HE CAN give your daughter a little something to calm her before he performs the operation. Ask about Versed or something else.

She will be awake but they will numb the area with a local anesthetic. No, it won't hurt. It is an odd sensation, though. She'll be able to feel a scratching and pulling sensation on the area as they work it but it won't have pain.

I had to have one taken off my neck. Don't be scared it's nothing. I felt a little pick when they numbed it. I hardly felt anything but some tugging and then I hardly felt that. It won't hurt I promise. I had to have two stitches and I felt nothing, putting them in or taking them out.

She would be given a local pain shot which afterwards she would feel tugging, pulling, etc, but not pain. It is worth taking care of, it just sounds scary.
