Chest bakc pain Shortness of breath..possible collapsed lung?!

Question: Okay so here's the deal, about 2 - 3 hours ago I got this severe pain in my back and chest. It was hard to breathe and when I inhaled it hurt. Most people would think why are u on the computer and not at the hospital? Well my parents are gone for another half an hour. I was just wondering if it could be that my lung collapsed. It is extremely painful and hard to sit up.

It's possible, but unless something catastrophic has happened to you, it sounds more like Pneumonia. Please call your parents and let them know what is going on with you just in case they decide to stop somewhere, OK? Pneumonia is easily taken care of with antibiotics. They will take a chest x-ray to help diagnose your problem.

Please write back and let us know how you are!

There is a test you can do to see if your lung has collapsed. Bend over like you are touching your toes and then stand back up. If you feel something shift inside(air bubble), you have a collpsed lung. It can happen spontaneously and is generally not life threatening. Scary, yes.

The only thing to do until you can go to the dr is to stay calm and don't exert yourself. If you find it getting harder to breathe, call 911.

Good luck.

nope its just V.D
