Could I have Diabetes?!

Question: Ok so I am overweight. I gained 70 pounds in about 2 years. (I was a healthy weight before) I now am extremely thirsty almost all of the time. If I dont eat after I wake up I get REALLY hungry, my stomach feels like it is eating itself and I get so sick to my stomach if I dont eat ASAP once my stomach starts to growl. But sometimes after I eat I still feel really sick to my stomach.

I am scared I have diabetes...I cant stand to have my fingers pricked and there is no way I could give myself a shot! Im scared! Also if someone has diabetes do they start to lose weight? or gain weight or do they stay the same weight?

First, go to the doctor to find out for sure if you have diabetes.

Here is what happened to me
I began to lose weight, not a lot, then I was thirsty ALL the time, like if my water was on the other side of the room, I might die of thirst before I could get there, kind of thirsty and I was urinating ALL the time, up 5-8 times during the night, then after about a month of that my vision got blurry, I withstood that for about 3 weeks and decided something had to be done, I went in and my sugar was at 625....VERY BAD!

I also have a fear of needles that is unparalleled! It's all I can do to hold still while my husband or best friend give me my shot. Pricking my finger is like absolute torture. I have never nor will ever give myself a shot. I cannot stand for the needle to go in, much less have to watch it go into my skin. BUT I take it because I have too, I cannot risk dying at a young age (I'm 39) and leaving my son without a mom, he already lost a brother. So I take it.

Since getting on meds, I'm no longer tired all the time, have lost about 60 lbs, and have more energy. Plus a side benefit, my whole family is eating healthier.

You CAN do this, if I can, you can. Find someone who can give shots, or will learn, and have them do it. Maybe one day you might be able to do them, I know that I can't, so maybe not.

Best wishes to you....I've been there, am there....you'll be okay.

you don't always gain or lose weight. you don't always have to prick your finger some meters allow the arm and because u are overwieght u are likely type 2 and don't require shots but if for some reason type 1 they have insulin pills. but i would always see a doctor first your symptoms don't seem serious to be but still u have some symptoms i would get checked out

Gaining weight puts you at increased risk for developing diabetes. Extreme thirst, hunger, and fatigue are all signs of diabetes. Usually with diabetes you also have frequent urination. Getting your finger pricked is really no big deal once you get used to it, and if you are diabetic, and you do require insulin, you can give yourself a shot. I started giving myself shots when I was 10. Many children learn how much younger than that. Diabetes is an illness that is treatable, and it's not such a big thing to get used to. The treatment is much better than the alternative: no treatment, which could likely result in blindness, kidney failure, amputations, and death. Dying from untreated diabetes would be a bad way to die. So brave up, get your blood sugar tested, and see what it shows.

And for the person above who mentioned insulin pills: There is no such thing. There are pills for type 2 diabetics, but they are not insulin. Type 1 diabetics always take insulin. It can be given by injection into the fatty tissue, or by IV. They are also dveloping a nasal spray, but I don't think it's available yet.
